 WE PREPARE TO WORSHIP GOD

“But those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength renewed.  They will rise on wings like eagles.  They will run and not get weary.  They will walk and not grow weak.”  Isaiah 40:31

CALL TO WORSHIP (responsively, from Psalm 146)

I will praise the Lord as long as I live!

I will sing praises to my God my whole life long!

Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob.

Whose help is in the Lord their God, who made heaven and earth.

          The Lord will reign forever!

Praise the Lord for all generations!

*HYMN:  #93 “Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates”                                           Glory to God Hymnal

PRAYER OF INVOCATION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison)

God of all time, we have allowed the world’s time to dominate your time.  You ask us to wait.  We become impatient.  You ask us to prepare.  We hurry to get every job done in time.  You ask us to expect a Savior.  We allow the world’s fears to become our fears.  Guide us back into your time so that we may be truly ready to receive your gift.  In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we pray…

Silent prayers of confession

AN AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (in unison)

The angel came to Mary and said, “Peace be with you.  The Lord is with you and has greatly blessed you.  You will become pregnant and give birth to a son whom you will name Jesus.  The Holy Spirit will come upon you.  For this reason, the child will be called the Son of God.  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High God.  The Lord will make him king, as his ancestor David was, and he will be the king of the descendants of Jacob forever.  His kingdom will have no end.”  And Mary said, “May it happen to me as you have said.”  (Luke 1:30-33, 38b)
