WE PREPARE TO WORSHIP GOD

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
Eleanor Roosevelt

PRELUDE

WELCOME

SPECIAL MUSIC: Audrey Holt-Grosnick singing “Lullay, Thou Little Tiny Child”

CALL TO WORSHIP (responsively, based on Psalm 130)

Wait for the Lord, like those who hope in God’s mercy.

          God’s steadfast love endures forever.

Watch for God, like those who eagerly await the morning.

We watch for God, whose power redeems us.

Hear God’s hopeful word, like those who long for pardon.

Sing praise to God and rejoice in God’s love.

*HYMN:   #194   “Joy to the World!”     Sing Joyfully Hymnal

PRAYER OF INVOCATION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison)

Gracious God, your giving is without end but we struggle to receive all that you offer.  We misuse your gifts, ignoring the contents and refusing your abundance.  We hoard what you want us to share and throw away what you want us to keep.  Forgive us and help us to understand the gifts you shower upon us.  Send your Sprit to guide our hearts so that we may live into the fullness of the Gospel.  In the strong name of Jesus Christ, we pray…

Silent prayers of confession

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

*GLORIA PATRI: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

SCRIPTURE

          Ezekiel 37:1-14 (p. 1052)

          Psalm 138 (p. 772)

WE RESPOND TO GOD’S WORD

*HYMN:   #67   “O God, Our Help in Ages Past”     Sing Joyfully Hymnal

AN AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (in unison)

God has created human beings for a personal relationship with God that they may respond to the love of the creator.  God has created male and female and given them a life which proceeds from birth to death in a succession of generations and in a wide complex of social situations.  God has endowed humans with capacities to make the world serve their needs and to enjoy its good things.  Life is a gift to be received with gratitude and a task to be pursued with courage.  People are free to seek life within the purpose of God, to develop and protect the resources of nature for the common welfare, to work for justice and peace in society, and in other ways to use their creative powers for the fulfillment of human life.  (from “The Confession of 1967”)
