 WE PREPARE TO WORSHIP GOD

“God never made a promise that was too good to be true.”

Dwight L. Moody

PRELUDE

WELCOME

THE LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT CANDLES

Response:  #82 “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus”                                                 Glory to God Hymnal

CALL TO WORSHIP (responsively, from Psalm 72)

Teach the king to judge with your righteousness, O God.

Share with him your own justice so that he will rule over your people with justice and govern the oppressed with righteousness.

May the land enjoy prosperity.  May it experience righteousness.

May the king judge the poor fairly.  May he help the needy and defeat their oppressors.

May your people worship you as long as the sun shines,

As long as the moon gives light, for ages to come.

*HYMN:  #102   “Savior of the Nations, Come”                                                         Glory to God Hymnal

PRAYER OF INVOCATION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison)

Redeemer God, you shared your Son to be the Savior of your people.  You have asked us to be the bearers of this good news yet we find it difficult to tell everyone.  We judge some to be unworthy of our effort.  Forgive the mistakes we have made.  In this, the season of your light, rejuvenate us and send us forth to share your love.  For this we pray in the name of the one who has rescued us from darkness, Jesus Christ…

*Those who are able may stand

Children are especially important to this congregation.  We don’t mind their minor disruptions and movements.  If your child becomes more active than is comfortable for you or those around you, we have a nursery located in the lower level where the worship service can still be heard.
