WE PREPARE TO WORSHIP GOD

“King of Kings and Lord of Lords!  And he shall reign forever and ever!  Hallelujah!”

George Frederick Handel

PRELUDE

WELCOME

INTROIT

CALL TO WORSHIP (responsively, from Psalm 5)

Listen to my words, O Lord, and hear my cries!

Listen to my cry for help, my God and king!

I pray to you, O Lord.  You hear my voice in the morning.

At sunrise I offer my prayer and wait for your answer.

Because of your great love, I can come into your house.

I can worship in your holy temple and bow down to you in reverence.

*HYMN:  #267 “Come, Christians Join to Sing”                                          Glory to God Hymnal

PRAYER OF INVOCATION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison)

God of Abundant Mercy, you have enthroned Christ to be a just, fair, and obedient king.  We have failed to follow his example.  We measure justice by how it affects our own lives.  We are only fair when someone is watching.  We are inconsistent at best in our obedience to you.  But in your mercy you do not condemn us.  You always offer us another chance.  Strengthen us, that we may become your people, serving our church and our world as Christ has served us.  This we pray in the strong name of Jesus Christ…

AN AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (in unison)

Christ calls the church into being, giving it all that is necessary for its mission to the world, for its building up, and for its service to God.  Christ is present with the church in both Spirit and Word.  It belongs to Christ alone to rule, to teach, to call, and to use the church as he wills, exercising his authority by the ministry of women and men for the establishment and extension of his kingdom.  (from “The Book of Order, G-1.0100b)
