PRAYER OF INVOCATION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison)

Gracious God, our sin is too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo.  Forgive what our lips tremble to name and what our hearts can no longer bear.  You alone can set us free from a past we cannot change.  Open us now to a future in which we can be changed and grant us your grace.  Help us to grow more in your likeness and image each day.  For these things, we pray in the name of your Son and our Savior, Jesus Christ...

AN AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (in unison)

“I am the vine and you are the branches.  Whoever remains in me and I in them will bear much fruit, for you can do nothing without me.  Whoever does not remain in me is thrown out like a branch and dries up.  Such branches are gathered up and thrown into the fire where they are burned.  If you remain in me and my words remain in you, then you will ask for anything you wish and you shall have it.  My Father’s glory is shown in your bearing much fruit and in this way you become my disciples.”

(John 15:5-9, Good News Bible, adapted)
