Pianist

Jen Powers

My “career” in music performance began at 4 years old when I sang “Away in a Manger” at my home church, the United Methodist Church, in Portage, WI.  I have been singing and later playing piano ever since. I started piano lessons when I was 6 years old.  I became active in choir in 5th grade and band in 6th grade.  I have been playing professionally for church services for 20 years. I first started at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Portage, WI when I was 15 years old.  I have been playing for services at the Portage United Methodist Church ever since.  I have also directed a youth choir, helped direct the Sunday school music program and led several other musical groups including an a cappella group in college!  I have a Master’s degree in Counseling and I worked with the Ho-Chunk population at the House of Wellness in Baraboo, WI for 3 years.  Right now, I am working on getting fully-licensed as a counselor.  Two years ago, I started playing at both the First Presbyterian Church of Pardeeville and the United Methodist Church of Pardeeville.  Today, I not only play for the FPC in Pardeeville, but I direct their women’s choir and mixed choir and am an active member of the Worship and Music Committee.  I am also currently volunteering through the Portage United Methodist Church as a musician at their Pizza Church and Heritage House Services and as a musician and a member of Portage chapter of the United Methodist Women.  I also assist with our 5-6-7 club in our Portage chapter of LOGOS, and am a co-facilitator of our new winter session of the Grief Share support group.  I play piano and sing at local nursing homes and for the art galas at the Portage Center for the Arts when I get the chance.  I live at home with my parents and my dog, Margo.
