Sermon for March 24, 2019 -- THE URGENCY OF NOW

WE PREPARE TO WORSHIP GOD

“We must use time creatively,
in the knowledge that the time is always ripe to do right.”

-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

PRELUDE

WELCOME

INTROIT #286 “Breathe on Me, Breath of God”, (verse 1)    Glory to God Hymnal

CALL TO WORSHIP (responsively, from Psalm 89)

O Lord, I will always sing of your constant love!

I will proclaim your faithfulness forever!

I know that your love will last for all time.

Your faithfulness is as permanent as the sky.

How powerful is our God!  How great is God’s strength!

God’s kingdom is founded on justice and righteousness.

*HYMN:  #634 “To God Be the Glory”   Glory to God Hymnal

PRAYER OF INVOCATION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison)

Ever-Present God, you have called us to be your disciples and to follow you into the world but our response is timid and bashful.  We ignore the cries of the oppressed or simply believe the needs of others are too great for us to make a difference.  Guide us to a new awareness of where you are at work in our communities and in the world.  Inspire us by your Holy Spirit to go out from this place and to boldly join you in serving others.  In the name of your Son and our Savior, we pray…

Silent prayers of confession
