WE PREPARE TO WORSHIP GOD

“Your talent is God’s gift to you.  What you do with it is your gift back to God.”  -- Leo Buscaglia

PRELUDE

WELCOME

INTROIT

CALL TO WORSHIP (responsively, from Psalm 36)

Lord, your constant love reaches the heavens!

Your faithfulness extends to the skies!

Your righteousness is towering like the mountains!

Your justice is like the depth of the sea!

We feast on the abundant food you provide.

You are the source of all light.

*HYMN:    #274   “Morning Has Broken”    Sing Joyfully Hymnal

PRAYER OF INVOCATION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison)

God of compassion, our faith becomes weak when we are in a crisis.  Our hope collapses whenever we are threatened or criticized.  We seek our own safety and abandon those who need us.  We only trust the objects we can create and control.  We speak a great deal and we risk little.  In your great mercy, you have promised never to forsake us.  Forgive us when we fail to trust in your promises and reform us into your faithful witnesses.  For this we pray in the strong name of Jesus Christ…

Silent prayers of confession

AN AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (in unison)

God calls a people to believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, to follow Jesus Christ in obedient discipleship, and to use the gifts and abilities God has given, honoring and serving God in personal life, in household and family, in daily occupations, and in community, nation, and the world.  God hallows daily life and daily life provides opportunity for holy living.  As Christians honor and serve God in daily life, they worship God.  For Christians, work and worship cannot be separated.  (from “The Directory for Worship”, W-5.6001)

Children are especially important to this congregation.  We don’t mind their minor disruptions and movements.  If your child becomes more active than is comfortable for you or those around you, we have a nursery located in the lower level where the worship service can still be heard.
